The son of Hadad, that is, Ben-Hadad, 'besieged Samaria'. Do you know anything about this place called Samaria? The history, of course, is very long as it is found in our Bible many times. The name "Samaria" derives from an ancient city of the same name, which was located near the south of Samaria, and was the capital of the Kingdom of Israel. According to 1st Kings 16:24, it is derived from the clan of Shemer, from whom Omri purchased the site. After World War I, we find that Samaria is given to the BRITISH (of all peoples) by the League of Nations. They controlled this region until Jordan took it during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, and then Isreal conquered it in the 6 day war of 1967. What was known as Judea, along with this place called Samaria, became what we know today as The West Bank of Israel.
So, this is the area besieged by Ben-Hadad. Feel smarter already?

Well, in our story, 'Ben', the King of Aram, is defeated by King Ahab. As we move on we read aobut the familiar story of Naboth and his vineyard. Remember? Jezebel had Naboth stoned to death on trumped up charges because her husband, King Ahab, was a wuss and didn't dare take the vineyard he lusted after from Naboth. What a team those two were...."urged on by his wife...he behaved in the vilest manner by going after idols."
After Ahab is killed. we move on to read about Jehoshaphat and Ahaziah, as we leave this first of the two greatest story/history books of the Bible.

I hope you enjoy these two books...there are so many great lessons to learn from the stories you read in them.

    Well, off to work....

    God IS Great!
