PEOPLE!!! My GOD, how people are stupid!! And we haven't changed since the days of Samuel. Complain, complain, complain. All we do is complain. "We want a King", they wimpered. "We want riches", we cry. They, nor we, were and are never satisfied. Isn't it just amazing how mankind has not learned a thing since God put us here on this earth? Oh sure, we pretend to be good. We act righteous. But in our hearts we are kids. We want our own way. We want to live our lives like WE want to, instead of how God wants us to. We are always comparing ourselves with others, and either 1, we brag because we think we are better, smarter, more handsome, stronger, etc, or 2, we envy what the other persons have. THIS is what the tribes of Israel were like when Samuel ruled over them as a Judge. He warned them that their sons and daugters would be subjected to working directly for the King. He told them that they would be taxed like they had never been taxed before. He warned them about how kings rule countries. But did they listen? Heck no, they cried, "Give us a king."
What do YOU cry about today because you are not satisfied with your present life? Do you yearn for higher pay so you can buy a newer car? Do you plead to God to let you win the lottery so THEN, you're life would be great? Do you wimper about the meager home you have when compared to the millionaires surrounding you? OF COURSE YOU DO.....Man has NOT changed. Our hearts are still the same as when Saul started his kingship. Too bad. Wish we could be content with what we have.

Today's reading is about Saul's first days on the job after being selected by God, and annointed by Samuel to be Israel's first king. He proves a fit for the job because of his height (a foot taller than anyone else) and his handling of the situation at Jabesh Gilead. He also prayed to God. So, initially, it looks like this Benjamite might just fit the bill as Israel's first king....but wait....there's more...(I'll see you tomorrow as we read about some of Saul's shortcomings.)

    God is Great!

You are so right about the complaining! I don't complain about anything you mentioned, in fact I often go outside after everyone is asleep and look at what God has given me. A huge house, several nice cars in the driveway and a great family. I do not want to win the lottery. If I did I would get some counselors, (John Duckworth, Mac, Richard) and I would donate most of it to helping others. Don't get me wrong, I would keep enough that bills would all be paid, but most of it would go away.

Always have been and always will be the same. Gime, gime, gime, yet it is never enough. I have enough of everything. What do you think you are lacking in?

Ability to love people. I LIKE people....but I have extreme difficulty in showing love toward others. This includes (outside of my wife), members of my family. I am sure I love each and every one of them, but I just don't do enough, nor say enough, to show that I do. THAT's what I am lacking. Got everything else.
