Good morning, Dustin. Seems ya got the names a bit messed up. Israel was Jacob. God renamed him. He is the son of Isaac and Rebecca, the GRANDSON of Abraham and Sarah and of Bethuel, and the twin brother of Esau. He had twelve sons and several daughters, of whom only one is known by name, by his two wives, Leah and Rachel, and their maidservants, Bilhah and Zilpah. The children were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, daughter Dinah, Joseph, and Benjamin. Jacob had other daughters, whose names are not mentioned. Before the birth of Benjamin, Jacob is renamed Israel by an angel. (NO CHARGE)
Today's assignment is an entire book, the book of Ruth (or is Spanish, Rut---pronounced Root, not Rut.
So, bottomliner, Ruth is David's great grandmother. (Morel lineage for you, Dustin).
A great story of devotion, of love and of some rules of the early Israelites (like sealing a deal by giving someone your sandal). Always liked this story of how Boaz cared for Ruth, and ended up marrying her honorably, not taking her for his own just because he found favor in her.
This story is also about FAMILY...how family members take care of one another. We can ALL learn a lot about this concerning our own lives...helping our in-laws, our children, our parents. Hope you all enjoyed this short book this morning.
