Hope you read it....I was reminded of that lesson when I was reading today, and wanted to share it with you once again.
Our reading starts off with a guy named Micah...certainly not the author of the book of the same name in the OT...who stole silver from his own mother, 'graciously' returned it to her, and then had idols made out of some it, and ultimately becoming a priest for the family. Later on, the Danites (from the tribe of Dan, one of the 12 sons of Israel), found Micah and his 'stuff' and wanted to take him with them to be their priest. Along the way, his family came and got him and brought him back home.
What can we learn about THAT little story, covered by two whole chapters in the Bible?
Hmmm...can't think of much, except, WHAT WAS HE THINKING?, making idols to be worshipped. And the reason for this, I think is reiterated in 17:6, 18:1 and 19:1, which said, "In those days Israel had no King (everyone did as he saw fit-17:6). Without a ruler, without a set of laws, people WILL do whatever they want, and usually won't be good, if you know what I mean.
Same with us....with live by a set of rules (or are supposed to), and OUR King is Jesus Christ. We shouldn't be doing what WE want to do, but what our King wants us to do. Don't you agree?
Well, tomorrow, we look at a book in the Bible which is truly unique...do you know why I say this about the book of Ruth? If not, I'll tell you tomorrow.
I invite all of you to copy this link into a new browser and read a lesson I did on chapter 19 back in 2001: http://www.macisirish.com/BibleStudies/ALeviteandHisConcubine.htm
