OH-OH......a WOMAN Judge! Is this the precursor to that arrogant Judge Judy? Anyway, this first chapter about Judge Debby is very interesting, indeed. A MAN comes to the leader of Israel, who, for some reason, is a woman. (I'll wage God did that because all the men were like Barak, the chicken.) Anyway, Barak is so scared of fighting the upcoming battle, he wants to have HER alongside him. What a wimp. When I went to the first Gulf War, I was somewhat 'concerned', but not afraid. Never having been in combat before, I had my aprehensions, but I knew my duty, and more than willingly went to get things done. I didn't ask anyone to come with me...I LED people. Barak was a leader, but not a very good one. He needed someone more 'powerful' than he to accompany him. Are you like that today,,,not in combat, per se, but in your life as a disciple? Do you need someone to accompany you when you share about Jesus? Or can you do that on your own? It is not a difficult thing to share your conversion story, your love for Christ, and His love for you and all mankind. Go DO it! Don't wait for someone to accompany you. Maybe you do this already, and if so, fantastic....however, if you consider this to be a weak point of yours, get over it....go do it. You don't need another man or woman to help you, you have the Holy Spirit within you....HE will help you say what needs to be said, YOU just need to get out there and start saying it. I am currently leading a very small Bible Study based on a book and video called, Becoming a Contagious Christian. A CC needs not be afraid, needs not someone to accompany him, but simply needs to go out there, BE a Christian, and tell the story of Jesus. Debby's song has always intrigued me. It is really, a prayer of praise built into a history lesson. In it, she even retells the story of Jael, who killed Sisera, the guy Barak was supposed to go after but God gave him over to a woman (Jael) instead. The end of her song/prayer includes a plea to God, when she sings, "But may they who love you be like the sun when it rises in its strength." Are you a lover of God? If so, then, be powerful, full of warmth for those who need your strength....get out there and tell the story of Jesus. (You don't have to sing it, just SAY it.)
Next, in chapter 6, we find the story of Gideon. Truly a remarkable set of events is about to take place. An Angel visits Gideon, who considers himself one of the weakest persons in his clan, you God tells him through this Angel, to go do it. (Sound familiar?) He even tells him you can do it with your own strength, but of course, we know that God will be with Gideon...but all it takes for us, and for Gideon, is to get out there and DO IT. Gideon, like maybe you, was skeptical about his capabilities. He wanted God to PROVE that He would be with him, using fleece and the dew to convince himself God would do as promised. Then, he went and Reply to this

DID IT!!!!! In chapter 7 we find the story of how God reduced Gideons force to only 300 to fight enemies of far greater number, lest Gideon think it was HIS own power and might that would be responsble. No, it is the same today. We don't need a FORCE behind us....like the Church...we don't need elders and ministers to help us tell our story about Jesus. We can do that alone, as God Himself, through the Holy Spirit, will be accompanying us.. I simply love the summary made by Gideon in chapter 8, verse 23..."I will not rule over you, nor will my son rule over you. The Lord will rule over you." God is in charge in ALL circumstances...all we have to do his be His mouthpiece, and He will do all the rest.

Back to chapter 1, why do you think they cut off the thumbs and big toes of the kings when they were captured? how much are we like the people in chapter 1? When there was a judge around they did what was right. When the judge died and was no longer around the people did worse than before. Let's look at our own lives. People, Christians, around us and we do what is right. What do we do when we are not around other Christians? Do we revert back to our old selfs or do we stay honorable? I heard once that character was doing what was right even though there was no one around to see it. What is your character like when by yourself? We all have struggles that we CANNOT win by ourselves. Rely on God, He is always there, always watching. Stay away from the false gods. The end of chapter 2 is interesting. God tests the Israelites by leaving the other nations in place to see if they will still follow His commands. Of course they fail and they follow the ways of the people in the land, why reform when you can conform. Are we like that today? Lets look at the work place. Smokers, drinkers, course joking, womanizing, all the things of the world. Do we "roll" with it or do we let people know that we don't live that lifestyle? People have an idea of who we are by what comes out of our mouth, whether we say a little or a lot. Sometimes it's what we don't say that makes the loudest sound. We are in our places in time for a reason, what it is I have no idea, but of this you can be assured, God is watching and listening and waiting for us to do the right thing. Why did Ehud kill 600 Philistines with an ox goad? What importance is that information to the rest of the story? Maybe it was just to let us know that the Lord stayed with Ehud even after they destroyed the Moabites. God gives us one victory, stay the course and He will stay with us, that's what I get. So i was wondering what BAAL worship was. Probably should not have searched that out. Baal translated means lord and refers to any God other than Jehova, Like our enemy Satan.
Why is it that when a God worshipping leader dies, The people turn against God so far every time it has happened.
