So ends another chapter in the saga of the Israelites. With Joshua now passed away, it will be interesting to seee what kind of leader God sets up for Israel. Joshua did a great summary of the Israelites' history starting with Moses bringing them out of slavery in Egypt, up to this point where they are now in the 'land of milk and honey'. We will see in the next book, Judges, who becomes the leaders of this magnificent nation God has established and looked after for a long, long time.
I found it interesting where Joshua put up a stone against a tree and said that this stone 'heard' all of the promises of obeyance, and the laws, of the Israelites. Yes, very intersting indeed. We have ears that received sound waves and we have learned to convert them in our heads to something we can understand. As a baby, we heard stuff, but couldn't understand...we had to learn it...as we have been doing all our lives. But what about a stone? It has no ears to hear. But you know what, the sounds still hit that stone. Maybe, just maybe, the molecular makeup of that stone actually 'heard' these promises made by the Israelites and may still have that 'knowledge' within it. God is clever in how He made man, so why not just as clever as He made stones. Maybe, just maybe, God can replay what that stone heard any time He wants to. Scary thought. Remember the time you swore? Remember the time you stole something? Remember the time you lost your cool and had a fit of rage? Remember the time you lusted? Recall the incidents where you ignored peoples' pleading for help? Remember all your sins? Well, God does. Or He CAN, that is. There are inanimate objects all around us which 'heard' us doing those things. Maybe, just maybe, a stone or a wall or a tree or something else will relay that information to God someday. Isn't that scary? Yes, it is, however, remember this also, Jesus came to earth to help us through our sins. He wants our repentance, our obeyance, just like Joshua told the Israelites and was heard by the tattletale stone. Don't let 'things' around you tell on you. Tell on yourself. Confess all those things you do wrong to Jesus, so that when God DOES listen to stones, He will hear only of the good you do, and not the bad, because Jesus has already erased those memories from those stones so His Father will be able to accept you into Heaven.
