Remember back in chapter 6? When Jericho was defeated, and Jushua said a solemn oath that anyone who attempts to rebuild Jericho would be cursed? Well, I wonder what Benjamin's clans did who inherited this city....see 18:21. Just something that caught my eye this morning and jogged my memory about something said earlier in the Bible. When I see things like this, I wonder why it is said something in the Bible somewhere, but seemingly conflicting words elsewhere in the Bible. Oh well, just me wondering.

These seven chapters (yes, a very long and somewhat boring reading today) contained a lot of description of this new 'promised land' into which Israel was going to move. Take these cities, areas, and regians and compare them with Israel today. Needless to say, God has not allowed Israel to prosper like He did back in Joshua's day. I wonder why that is. Is Israel not still God's 'chosen people'? Or were they 'diluted' when Jesus came and He and His disciples and Paul reached out to other people outside the tribes of Israel to be God's chosen ones? Peter says we "are being built into a spiritual house tobe a holy priesthood..." and that "...you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God.." So, as I now understand it, God has changed, giving up on Isrealites to an extent, and extended His covenant through Jesus to the rest of the World. Israel today is a very small nation, when compared to the rest of the countries on this earth. Very small indeed. Israel would fit INSIDE nearly every U.S. state! In fact, tiny Israel would fit into the United States (Alaska & Hawaii included) 768 times! Israel could fit into Florida SEVEN times! The United States is a country surrounded by two vast oceans and two friendly countries, Canada and Mexico. Israel is not so lucky. it is surrounded by 22 Arab countries and some very nasty Arab Islamic terrorist organizations. So, what happened? Did sin continue to grow unchecked in this area? Did other nations fight back and win against God's chosen ones? If so, why was not God with them then? Just something to think about. If it happened to what were once God's chosen priesthood, His lovely children, could it not happen again?
I imagine sin had a lot to do with the current size of the nation of Israel, yet sin is rampant in most 'Christian' countries.....what will become of us in our own futures? Will our land be divided up by God for some other nation to 'inherit' because the love God more than we. I could happen, as anything is possible with God. Let's just pray it doesn't.

Hope you all come back to the blog, as separation from God is not good, but....

    God is Great!
