SO Many stories today....The Gibeonites clever plan to save their own lives...ending up being woodcutters and waterbearers for the Israelites, BUT ALIVE!. Then came the story of how God killed more of the enemies from the 5 kings with hailstones as they were running away, than were actually killed by the Israelites. Next, came the 5 kings hidden in a cave, and Joshua making an example of them by killing them together after the battle. The next few events are renditions of the Israelites killing people left and right as they moved through their 'promised land'. And chapter 12 simply summarizes all the kings who used to have kingdoms, but were now totally destroyed......."thirty-one kings in all".
FAR too much killing! I have still not figured out why God did this. Why did He not simply convince these peoples to become one of His own through understanding, training and miracles? Why kill thousands upon thousands of people who He created in the first place. Some say God is the same today as He was at the beginning of time, and will always be that way. But here we get a glimpse of God 'changing'. He listened to Man, and did what he asked. We also know that others talked to God and convinced him to change His mind...you all recall the conversation God had with Abraham? Anyway, if God has NOT changed, why are not all aethiests being killed by followers of Christ? Why does God ALLOW people to NOT believe in Him? Also, why does He allow people to believe lies about Him? If Jesus is His Son, why does not God MAKE all people believe this, and why not MAKE all people have the same doctrine when it comes to Him and His Son? Wouldn't the world be a whole lot better? Why toy with humans? Why kill them? Why not 'make' them believe the truth? Certainly God can control Satan...why wait until some big Armeggedon-type event to wipe out Satan and make this earth a peaceful place for ALL people? Yup, SO many stories, and yet, SO many questions.
