Here we have very specific instructions from 'The Lord'. Don't take anything for yourself when I give you the city of Jericho, but bring all the gold, silver and bronze items to the priests for The Lord. Achan disobeys. Too bad. He got a lot of Israelites killed. When they went to attack the city of Ai, they were defeated. All because of the sin of one man.
If YOU sin, do you think it only affects YOU? I think we all know better. The sins we commit can affect our families, our friends, and even people we don't even know. And of course, when we sin, we are disobeying very explicit instruction from OUR Lord. Christ has told us what to do, and not to do, yet we continue to disobey Him. And I imagine, because of some of my sins, people I love or loved were probably affected.
It would be wise of us not to fall into temptations like Achan was.....not necessarily stealing, but disobeying in general. Let us not be singled out in front of 'our nation' of family and friends as a corrupt individual, but let us be known as men of God. Men of God do their best not to fall into sin, but when they do, they immediately get help through confession to God and to others....don't wait until you are 'caught' in a sin to repent.
Fear God, as we must work out our salvation with fear and trembling.
We just got back from Athens where the Athens Church of Christ hosted a SouthEast area conference called the Festival of Faith, Acts 2010. WHAT A GREAT TIME! Saw old friends, some we hadn't seen in several years. The COC is strong and growing stronger still. Wish you all could have been there. Because there were about 3500 participants, you MIGHT have been there (Rick, Rich, and maybe others) and I might not have seen you...if you were, let me know.)
Would you be like Achan?
