Was this book penned after Jacob lived? As you can see, Jacob himself did not follow these rules, yet God loved him. He gave his double love to Joseph and Benjamin, who were born to the woman he loved, instead of Reuban who was born to Leah. Strange how the 'lesson' Jacob lived actually may have made God create these new laws.

We have gotten SO FAR AWAY from the Bible, it is ridiculous....take for example, this law: "A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor a man wear women's clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this." Heck, women all the time wear clothes designed for men (pants, jeans, shirts, etc)...and unfortunately, their are also male species (I refrain from calling them men) who wear clothes designed for women. 'DETESTABLE', says God. Yet, people do it all the time.

I saw a term today, I had not recognized before: "upper millstone" (verse 24:6), so I looked it up. Found it also in Judges 9:53. I found it that it is also called a handstone, which is 1 of 2 stones used in a variety of grinding various grains and other elements. The two stones together are called quern stones, while the 'lower' one is referred to as the quern. Now, how about THAT for a lesson today?

So, as the verse states, don't even take a half of a pair of quern stones as security for a debt. Why? Heck, I have no idea. But I do note that most of this discussion relates to how people should treat others, especially those considered to be brothers in Christ. Don't charge interest, but lend or give freely to each other. I think we do that quite often, with nothing expected in return. Borrowing from ones' neighbors, however, that is, if the neighbor is not a member of Christ's church, can lead to bad feelings when repayment is not made in a reasonable period of time. By being Christians, we can forgive each other easier than people of the world can....but still, no 'interest' should be charged between us. The only 'interest' that should be 'charged', is an increased interest in God, His Son Jesus Christ, and His Word.

    God is Great.
