A lot more laws and rules. But that's okay. We need them. I DO like the law about two or more witnesses being required to convict someone. Today, we don't necessarily follow those rules. Take the cases of where women can accuse a man of harassment, and even if there are no other witnesses, more than likely, the woman will win the case. This is destable, in my mind. I abhor harassment, especially sexual harassment, but there HAS to be a fair law for both sexes. Take the case of the women who accused the Duke students of rape. They were assumed guilty by the world right from the start; even expelled, I mean, suspended, from school...all on the accusation from one person. Not fair. Women DO need protection, for sure, as there are plenty of wierd dudes out there who do what they want to them, and that disgusts me. But, a line must be drawn somewhere.

I know God knows who is innocent and who is not, but I wish He would convey that knowledge to judges and juries in cases where people are hurt, lied against, or otherwise harmed in some way. Wouldn't it be nice if we could REALLY tell what happened in cases where people are harassed or not?

In these chapters, God says the punishment for a lot of crimes, is stoning to death. Maybe a rapist should be stoned to death, as well, if clearly guilty. And, the person who should probably throw the first stone is the person who was raped. AND, don't forget, that person could be either a woman OR a man.

I was once accused of sexual harassment by a young woman I expelled from the military because she consistently failed to meet the weight standards set at that time. I was vindicated, as the rest of the unit knew me better than that, yet for a time, my superiors probably questioned my innocence. It is not a good place to be. In this case, should the woman have been stoned? No, but a punishment of some kind should have taken place, but because she made the accusations after she left the military (in the form of a note to my superiors), she was not persecuted.

So you see, the idea of having a set of witnesses, and not just one person, is an invaluable lesson mankind can learn from God in these chapters.

How about you? Ever been falsely accused by one person? Tell me your experience.

You know me Mac, we are going thru that right now. I agree it should be at least two people to accuse or to witness otherwise. Now a days we are guilty until proven innocent. Innocent until proven guilty is this country's motto, to bad the justice system does not use it.

Interesting thing about the kings, chapter 17 verses 17-17, 16 “The king must not build up a large stable of horses for himself or send his people to Egypt to buy horses, for the Lord has told you, ‘You must never return to Egypt.’ 17 The king must not take many wives for himself, because they will turn his heart away from the Lord. And he must not accumulate large amounts of wealth in silver and gold for himself.

This is what the king should not do,yet, what about King Solomon? The wisest and riches king ever, too many wives to count, hundreds of horses. Things that make you go hum.
False prophets, boy we have a bunch of those today. TV evangelists are, in my opinion, the biggest hypocrites and false prophets. Especially the ones who claim to heal on tv.
I like chapter 19 verses 16-20. If a false witness appears both the witness and the accuser and the other person will get the same punishment, then other people will think twice about false accusations. Do that with terrorism, kill a few innocent people and the terrorists will think twice before doing it again.
Chapter 20 verses 5-8, how many people today do You think would stay if they had all those options for going home. We live in such a different society today! Full of liars and thieves, murderers and rapists. In Hattie rape was just made illegal on 2005, with all that is going on today in that country, women are still being abused and raped daily.
God sets out a bunch of laws to be followed to get His blessing. Jesus made it much easier as He intercedes for us, otherwise we would all be hell bound. Life is what we make of it, count our blessings and don't dwell on the negative, God will turn things around if we let Him.
