Bam!!! Right between the eyes! This one struck me right there! Of all the years I have heard about manna coming from heaven to feed the Israelites as they lived in the desert for 40 years, NEVER had I even THOUGHT about the food they already have! All those cattle, sheep and birds, and other animals in the land....why didn't they eat them? They sacrificed animals to God in the form of killing them and burning them, but why didn't they eat their livestock? And why didn't they plant food (they brought all types of things from Egypt, so I am sure they brought various seeds as well....they weren't THAT stupid. In Chapter 11 they cry out once again about 'what they used to have' in Egypt...well, DUH, everybody, they had the same things with them now. They could have planted crops......I don't think they physically walked for 40 years...I am certain they were in places long enough to grow food. And they had plenty of animals....why not eat some of them?

All this time I imagined they lived on manna everyday, and that is all they had. I don't think so....they MUST HAVE had meat available to them. I guess I will just never understand some things in the Bible.
ONE thing they did that was pretty smart though, was to send an 'advance party', a scouting team, into other lands, to see what obstacles they might face or if it was worth their effort to go that way....who knows, it might have been more desert.
We sometimes 'scout' out OUR paths as well. We send out 'teams', in the form of investigation using various means, to determine if we should go down a certain path or not. We all studied the Bible before we decided to take this trek in our lives. We scouted out the advantanges and disadvantages. Luckily, we chose correctly.

When the Israelites saw a possible 'formidable foe' in Canaan, they all got worried and grumbled against Moses and his brother. Instead of coming up with a solution themselves, they complained. Typical of people everywhere today. We see things that are wrong, and we complain but offer not good solution. Or if we do suggest a solution, we only suggest and don't really do anything about it our own selves. No, we really haven't changed much since the Israelites in the desert, except we know that we can enjoy a porterhouse steak if we really get hungry and want to.

That is one GREAT question! Did they just bring material things from Egypt or did they have enough though to bring food and water also. I believe they brought everythin, including their livestock. So what was with the crying for food. Another great insight MAC. Let me read on now.

204 animals where sacrificed at the anointing it the temple alone ( chapter7). For all of the daily sacrifices they had plenty of animals. You gotta think they had a few steaks also.

One would think we have a cruel and demanding God from reading the old testament. Thank the Lord for Jesus! How could the people continue to grumble when they see the miracles of God daily! They were tired of the mana yet they had heards of livestock. When were they told they could not eat from their heards? They grumbled for meat and they died from it. How many things do we grumble for that are killing us? How many times have we seen what God has for us but it will be to hard, so we grumble? We have not changed much from the Israelites, but we do have. Jesus to keep us from immediate plague or death. There is an old saying, look before you leap. Do we look before we leap?
