I have just read through the new year posts and when I saw riches post I welled up in tears of joy. to hear( or read) your voice (yes I heard it in my head) again is pure joy brother. I hope to see you here often. I am now settled in in Knoxville and I would encourage all of you to move up here. this church is fantastic. I can not even begin to explain how awesome it is to be here. I am very involved in the teen ministry and we are going to start getting with a couple this year for marraige advice (yes my wife wants this to!!!) I am in my bible a ton more then before, although it is stillnot every day. I have a lazy streak that is so hard to fight off at times. I will attempt to get here daily and you can email me at patrickwells@sprint.blackberry.net good to here from all of you!

I want to believe the flood story and about Noah, but I struggle with it. I don't understand how there could be so much water that the entire planet was covered. If so, where did all of the water go to when it dried out? I learned in science class that we live in a zero sum environment. That is, there is neither more nor less water today in the world than there was at any time in the past. Water does not "escape" from the system. It can change form, but it does not disappear. I know that God can do anything, but this is one aspect of the flood that I do not understand.

Another interesting section of what we read today is in Gen 9:9 - "I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you." If these were the only people left alive, then God's covenant was made at that specific time with ALL men. No one could have possibly been excluded from that promise. So, how did we get to Jews (chosen/covenant people) and gentiles? Or is it that the covenant here is just that God will not destroy the earth with a flood again? Is that the only covenant he makes with Noah? Actually as I read more carefully, maybe that is the only covenant made here. Interesting.

What did Ham do that was so bad? He saw his father's nakedness? There must be more here than I am seeing. Any ideas?

It is truly fascinating how the Bible describes man multiplying and populating the earth from this one family. There is so much more to the flood story than just the flood! Did it really all happen as described here or is this just a story? Why does science fight so strongly against the flood story?

Last thought for today. Why does God say: "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them"? Is it really possible that NOTHING would be impossible for us if we all worked together? Is unity really that powerful? I used to believe strongly in the power of unity in the church. It seemed that unity was our main strength. Now we are all scattered and there seems to be no power. My wife has made some major changes in the past few months and for the first time in about 10 years we are unified as a couple. It is a very long story, but one the right now has a happy side. We are now looking for a church. We have explored the past church of Christ congregations in the area and one thing that stands out to me is "DISUNITY!" There seems to be competition instead of oneness. I don't really like what I see. We are talking about looking at other churches, but we don't really know where to go. I need a church and a church body. Pray for us to find where God wants us to be.

    to Rich....about churches.
GOOD LUCK. MOST churches I now visit claim you don't need to be baptized, even though they encourage it. I attended a Nazarene Church in Clarksville, TN where I went to see my son (and give him bond/lawyer money), and we went to that church together (he had been there a few times before after getting out of the rehab center last Spring). I spoke with the preacher before church and asked him about their teachings. I let him know that he was probably not IAW the Bible because of his belief that baptism isn't required, and that his 'sinners' prayer' isn't even mentioned in the Bible. He blew it off, of course, as he has had 35 years of 'training' as a church leader. Oh well. So, if you DO find one, let me know. I was sorta 'kicked out' of the New Life Christian Church because of my refusal to accept their misguided beliefs about baptism. Sure hope I find one, but in the meantime, am going to North River (off and on---mostly off because of absences during the holidays). But, like you say, it just isn't the same. I can't put my finger on it, but this disunity thing that broke us up in the first place, still haunts each gathering today.

Will blog this eve, sometime after work, on the last two days 'assigned' readings.

I can't answer your questions;, and they are GOOD questions, at that. You know my approach to the Bible as well. I DO think a lot of it is 'just stories', but underlying it all is the fortelling of Jesus' first and next arrivals after the original fall of man. THAT, I believe to be true--its just some of the other things discussed which leave a lot to the imagination (and to confusion). Belief that Christ is our savior, however, is what is necessary. We can learn more and more about God in the Bible, and a lot of that is important as it gives us insights into how He wants us to live. I am glad Dustin reenergized me to start this blog up once again (as you can see, it has been idle for three months).

Talk about being ticked! Noah cursed his own son because of his(Noah's)drunkenness. Maybe Canaan was joking about what and how he saw his father, who knows, but to be cursed for life, kinda harsh.
Isn't it amazing that they knew how to make bricks, and buildings and towers. It seems like all of this is natural to the men of the time.

Chapter 6 God says that man will live no more than 120 years, yet here we are in chapter 11 they are still living 200-430 years. Any thoughts?

Ok, God floods the earth kills all the people and animals. Got it. At what point did Noah stop teaching about the flood to his children. oh wait they were there. so did his children teach? obviosly not. so as one we decide to build a tower to heaven. Doesnt sound like the best idea we have ever had. When will we learn. So if everyone spoke the same laungauge do you think we would be the way we are today? hmmmm i wonder. feel free to put in your thoughts.
