So, if someone asks you who was the oldest man recorded in the Bible, you could give two answers: Methuselah (the most common answer as is found in chapter 5), or Methushael (found in chapter 4). Lamech could only have had one father, and in both chapters, the father of Lamech is listed---Methushael and Methuselah. So, there you have it, one thing I gleaned today and never really noticed the several times I have read this book. Oh, how old? Well, 969 years, of course.
Hate. What is it? What causes people to kill someone else because of hate? I know people are murdered everyday in the world. A lot of times it is drugs, drunk drivers, money and other 'reasons' for people's actions, but what about hate? Is it hate that our Muslim radical brothers kill innocent civilians? Was it hate behind the bombing of the twin towers in New York? How can one hate someone if they don't even know that person. I can see hating ideals, but the PERSON? Is it hate that has caused the many wars the United States was involved in? Certainly hate had something do to with the Civil War, and possibly the American Revolution. But were the real underlying reasons for the many wars really about ways of life and greed? Cain probably didn't hate his brother, but hated that Abel got favorable attention from God, and he did not. Hate is a mean word...I don't HATE anyone, I don't even hate other people's ideals and beliefs. But, unfortunately, there are probably millions of people in the world who hate SOMETHING, and take it out on someONE. Well, that's itkfor this morning.....hopefully more Californiaites will join us; and maybe Rik too. Reply to this

The lineage from Adam to Noah. Cain and Able why was God so pleased with Able's offering and not Cains? Did Cain skim off the top and take some of the best offering and give God what was left. Just a thought. Something that i will pray for today to understand what Cain did that was not pleasing to God. Reply to this

Say you have to work late one night and your wife cooks t-bone steaks, one for everyone, and hot dogs if the kids are still hungry. One son eats his steak and decides he is still hungry but does not want a hot dog and he eats your steak. After all there is only one each and if he eats yours you will never know, you'll just have hot dogs and be none the wiser. Your other son though, sees what has been done and puts his steak aside for you and he eats only hot dogs. Who will get your favor? Reply to this

Sorry read that wrong. Cain eventually brought some of the fruits of the field but Abel gave from the firstborn, not after he had what he needed. He (Abel) sacrificed the first born not the 10 or 11, but the first. What if no more were born after the first then he would have no newborns. Cain, it seems, waited until he had what he needed and then , in the course of time, sacrificed some to God, when he was ready. Reply to this
