Welcome Dustin and All who have decided to try to do this every day in 2010. It is a challenge, every morning, for most to open up their Bible, read some Scripture, and then open up their Computer and talk about what they gleaned from those Scriptures.

I pray that all who start, will be able to finish, and maybe you can set a goal for yourself, a realistic one. One like, "out of the 365 days, I will blog at least 300 of them", or something like that. God never intended perfection in His creatures, as you will learn tomorrow in your reading. It is not impossible, but highly improbable, that each of you who start this today, will continue to do it every day, without fail. But, if you give it a try, you might surprise yourself how easily this becomes after a habit is set.
Anyway, Happy New Year to all, and to all I hope to see your thoughts most days.

Sam (aka Mac, Michael, Dennis, knucklehead, etc)

PS--By the way, if you type in a lot in these blogs, it is wise to copy all you have typed into memory before hitting the Submit Comment button. On occasion, this site will fail to operate and you will lose your hard thought comments unless you have 'saved' them. Because if you have saved them, all you have to do is try again and paste them back in.

Got a coupla things to say about this this morning, this first day of 2010. First, I wonder if Moses quite got this right, about the creation of Heaven and Earth and stuff. I'm not all that certain that 1, the time frames were quite right, and 2, that maybe the 'stars' to which Moses referred, were not really put there for the purpose of providing light for mankind on earth. Maybe, just maybe, God put all those billions upon billions (heck, who knows how many there really are...no one but God) of stars out there so He could have multiple locations for life, including multiple locations for humanoid life.

And now that I'm talking about humanoid life, a little bit about Adam and Eve. Interesting how Moses (I keep referring to Moses here simply because it is to him most people give credit for writing this book, and the next four sequential ones in the Bible) described the three rivers leading to the place Adam and Eve were to live as passing through named areas. Who named them? God? Adam? The 'other' people God put there besides Adam and Eve (more about that in the coming days).
Now, the title of this blog, That Looks tempting, was not mine, it was from the list Dustin sent me to include on each day of this coming year. But we do see some tempting going on. First by the serpent (was this a snake or a person????--God only told this 'thing' that he would crawl on his belly AFTER it/he had tempted Eve. Was this a fallen angel???), and then by Eve. Now, I don't know how she tempted Adam, other than just SAYING, eat this, but whatever she said/did obviously tempted Adam enough to go against God's commands. How many times are YOU 'tempted' to go against God's commands? Many times in a day, I'll bet. How many times to you give in to that temptation. Probably a lot if you're like me. One temptation I have is alcohol. I don't consider myself a true alcoholic as even though I drink beer, wine and other 'spirits', I don't get drunk (like I used to in my Military life). Even so, I am still tempted to drink quite often. In order to fight this temptation, I have resolved (set a new year's resolution) to not drink any alcoholic beverages for the first 90 days. Although alcohol does have some good qualities, in general it is degrading my body and mind more that it is helping. I may need some help. As I am not perfect (see earlier blog), I would like for you (all) to mention on occasion to me on this blog, reminding me of my resolution. Thanks in advance.

In the message version of the bible it says that there are 4 rivers,
A river flows out of Eden to water the garden and from there divides into four rivers. The first is named Pishon; The second river is named Gihon, The third river is named Hiddekel, The fourth river is the Euphrates.
One into 4/3, you would think they could locate the garden.

The serpent had to be some kind of animal as Adam was unable to find a suitable helper when he named all the animals. Maybe the serpent could walk or fly and was not feared by man. His curse was to crawl and be hated be man? Who knows.

Before i left Georgia, three of the wisest brothers i know told me to take what i have learned at North River and share something about it with Orange County. Well i have struggled with what i was supposed to bring. I have asked God repeatedly what i was supposed to bring. Day in and day out i would try to figure out what i could do.
So before Christmas, i was in Lifeway Christian store searching for a book for my wife. She had asked for a devotional book so she could get deeper in the bible. So i am looking through all these womens devotional books and i find one titled "the one year Through the Bible devotional" and i picked it up, opened it to august 14th and the title for the day was Real Men Don't...... so i started reading it. Towards the bottom it said "....God is pleased with your obedience, and trust him to work out the best for the situation." My thought was WOW. I was in a bad place at the time and since reading that sentence i have tried much harder to get away from where i was at. A couple days later after i made my "what can i do?" prayer. It hit me.
So Ladies and Gentlemen, Brothers and Sisters WELCOME. This is the one year devotional. I hope that all can stop by everyday. If not every day as many times a week as you can make time for. I pray that you can all make time for God everyday even if its not here.
My New Years Resolution is to read the Bible cover to cover and spend time with God every day. This is something i havent been able to do yet. Please help me to do this and i will help you with what ever i can. Thanks all.

    GOD IS GOOD!

    Temptations..........

What are you tempted by? My biggest temptation is food. Sound familiar? Eve was tempted by food and then she gave it to her husband. Adam and Eve disobeyed a direct order from God. hmmm... But there was no sin at the time so why would they disobey? Was the serpent pure sin. Was God telling them not to eat from the tree because he actually didnt want Adam and Eve to meet the serpent. I DONT KNOW!!! questions....
So today is the Rose Bowl and my team, The Ohio State University, will be playing. Some of my family will be coming over and there will be snacks and junk food all over my house. The temptation to eat junk will be everywhere in my house. I am going to try to resist the temptation to eat all of these yummy snacks and limit myself to only a few. Hope you all have made your resolutions and havent broken them yet. I will pray for all of you.

    God is Good!
