What I had started this morning, went something like this. This chapter (9) is still a lot of name listings, but a break was taken in the middle to describe the duties of the Levites. Their jobs were associated with work at the Temple, which included inventory-taking guards, musicians and bread makers. The Levites did not receive land as did the other 11 tribes of Israel, but were only given cities in which to live and take care of Temple duties. They were the tribe of Levi, one of the 12 sons of Jacob/Israel. Benjamin, the 12th son, was born after God had changed Jacob's name to Israel, but the first 11 were known initially as Jacob's sons. Levi, being one of them, for reasons unbeknownst to me, was chosen to have his nation be the keepers of the Temple. (Check out the book of Numbers (chapter 8) for more on how the Levites were chosen.)
The Levites did not get any land, and hence could not make a living like the other 11 nations, so they were the recipents of TITHES from the other 11. In other words, his brothers' tribes gave the first 10% of all their earnings to the Levites who were busily keeping the Temple up in accordance with God's commands.

Sorry,,,,not much in the way of a lesson today, but more of a historical look. If you want to, maybe YOU can find a moral or two to apply to our lives today.

    God is good.
