What MUST have Israel done to deserve such wrath? Over and over again, Hosea prophesies that God literally hates them, and they will be destroyed, along with their children. If you go back to Jeremiah, chapter 5 (and plenty of other instances in that book), you will see that other prophets at that time said the same thing. (Verse 7 htere: "...yet they committed adultery and thronged to the houses of prostitutes."). It seems that sex and love of idols and greed were common throughout Israel and other tribes at the time. Much like today in the good ol' U S of A. Just look around you and see the way young women are dressed...despicable. Looking for sex. And the number of 'night clubs' as they are called, just in Atlanta, where who-knows-what really goes on in those establishments, but one can surely guess, are staggering. And let's not forget about homosexuality in the states as well. God HATES that behavior, yet people not only condone it, many (including politicians) fight for rights of people to live that way. And this is so plainly evident in the Bible that God hates this. I don't hate the people that live like that, I simply feel sorry for them. What chance do they have of ever reaching Heaven. As we have discussed before, repentance for sinful living is the only way. God hated the people of Israel 2800 years ago, although He loved them as well. I am sure He 'hates' a lot of us today, and is surely saddened by what He sees as opposing His laws and rules. I hope that He is as lenient toward society today as He eventually displays toward the Israelites (but not yet seen in THIS chapter).
