Stephen KNEW his church history. I don't. I know very little of what happened BEFORE Christ, and what occured after Him. For example, I now know that AD 325 was an approximate date of the lessening of the importance of Baptism in the church. Before that time, before the Council of Nicaea, adult baptism was almost always required as a step toward salvation, not as a 'works', but as a necessary action. (Like getting out of bed is an action, and no one would consider that to be a work (well, SOME WOULD, jokingly), which as, we all know, WORK was banned on the Sabbath day before Christ came along and changed the rules.) There, got back on the subject of baptism, didn't I...sorry---just my intense area of study right now. BUT, back to Stephen. Gosh he knew his church history. This is one great chapter to memorize. But, better yet, it ought to be an encouraging chapter to us to go out an learn the REAL church history instead of simply listening to our preachers of today, MOST of whom have NO idea of the real changes and progressions/regressions of the church since the first Century. Maybe I'll go to school for this. Today is Labor Day....and I'll bet most of you don't even know the history of THIS day. NOt being 'smart' here, just being honest. Heck, if I don't even know the history of an American holiday (originally Canadian) (which we 'celebrate' every year) that was first started back in 1882 as a 'peace offering', fearing widespread violance after what happened at 'the Pullman Strike'--many were killed by US Marshals and military. Yup, if we don't even know THAT, something that started 125 years ago, why should we be aware of something that started over 2 THOUSAND years ago. Well, we SHOULD know both, the latter being MUCH MORE IMPORTANT as it involves eternal life. What say you?

Funny, I just read the history of Labor Day! The history I read said it started in Pullman Illinois when the railroad car workers went on strike for better wages and lower rent. 1883 Grover Cleveland sent in 12000 troops to calm the riots, lost the upcoming election, congress passed a holiday to calm the people, and here we are. Gotta wonder what is right, but I do agree that we should know our saviors history! Reply to this

Most of us don't even know our own history yet the history of God! How cool would it be to know God's history, yet we don't take the time, not a priority. Woe! What a chapter! The whole history of his people and religion only to be stoned to death! Yet even as he was dying he asks the Lord to forgive them. Even as we are being done wrong, do we forgive those who are doing it as it is being done? I think not. We need to have more forgiveness in our lives and we should gain knowledge of our history.
