What do YOU think? Do you think (today) that every Chinese, every Vietnamese, every Thai, every Arabian, every Saudi, every Iraqi, every Iranian, and so forth and so forth, have HEARD the story of Jesus? I think not. Some of those listed, as well as plenty of others, have curtailed the western Bible from use. I'd be pretty darn certain that not everyone (today) has been told the story of Jesus.
Now, what about in Paul's time? Is Paul being 100% accurate here? Do you think that the ancient Chinese, Tibetans, (etc, etc, etc) actually was ever told the story of Jesus? Again, I doubt it.
SO, what IS he saying? I believe he is saying that the story is FOR everyone, and that possibly everyone SHOULD actually hear it somehow, not that they actually had. He, I think, is saying that the proclamation of the rising of Jesus from the dead is a story FOR all...it is intended FOR all. Now, (or then), it was up to Paul and his hearers to carry out that proclamation to 'every creature under heaven'. That is what he signed up to do...serve that proclamation. To 'every creature'? NAH, that would be insane....maybe the goal is to reach every PERSON, but certainly not every ant, slug, rabbit....well, you get the picture. Sometimes you just have to understand the Scripture and not take them too literal. Most Christians believe the Bible is error-free...so, if YOU believe that, then the statement here must certainly be taken differently than literal, don't you think? There are numerous 'similar' statements in our Bible that simply don't make sense when taken word-for-word (a lot of Christians will disagree as they believe EACH and EVERY Word in there comes from God and He doesn't make mistakes), but can be understand for their overall message or meaning. Anyone else? If YOU are one of those Christians who believe the Bible is flawless, contains NO errors, then YOU explain to Zack how this statement can be (could have been) true. (Remember, the world consisted of lots of different peoples ALL OVER IT, not just those centered in Israel and 'western Europe'). Reply to this

The verse now sounds different and makes the statement that jesus IS widely known.
I bet that if you walked through a mall and stoped 100 people or more and asked if they knew who jesus is, you would get a 100% yes answer to your question. Because i do believe that everyone has heard of Jesus, Whether they know him or not. Now on to the creatures: A creature is a living organism. The term is derived from a widespread historical belief in creationism. The word is generally used to refer to non-human animals but does include humans, and it is also sometimes used to mean monster.
WOW "BUT DOES INCLUDE HUMANS". So did Paul use the word creature to refer to humans? I think that might be what he was refering to. So does that include all creatures? i am not close enough to GOD to be able to tell you if God can talk to the animals and if they talk back. Thats something to learn in another journey. The journey after this one. Love you all and hope to hear from you soon. Reply to this

Dustin....try walking through a Mall in China, in Tibet, in Mongolia, in Iraq, in Iran, if North Korea...I bet your percentage would be closer to 0 than 100. Same would have been true in Paul's time....'the world' to some back then did not include the continents of Africa, Antartica, the Americas....heck, it wasn't until 1592 that Columbus 'discovered' 'America'. Walking through a village in those continents, and probably most of Asia, you would also have found a minute number of people who had heard the gospel. One shouldn't get hung up on 'all', or even 'widely known' (but good research!), as I imagine most of the 'world' back then had not heard of Jesus. One SHOULD however, be concerned with his/her role in advancing that gospel today. There ARE people in the world who have not been taught about Jesus...yes, maybe a lot of 'heard about Him', but most of the 6+ billion people have NOT heard the gospel, and most of those who HAVE, have elected not to follow Him. Muslims and the other large religions of the world excluding Chritianity certainly aren't following Him. So, the mission is great, the fields are ripe for harvest, and we must do as Paul attempted --- to be servant of Him and spread the very gospel to people 1, who haven't heard it, and 2, to people who have heard it but first rejected it.
BUT, we should not be naive into thinking that 100% of the population of our globe have heard this miraculous story, nor should we fool ourselves into believing those who HAVE heard it, that most have accepted AND ARE FOLLOWING it. 'Christianity' in our malls, in our cities, in our slums, in our drug community, in our prisons, in our population of 'evil' people, should prove that.....it is one thing to call yourself a Christian after hearing the gospel, and another to actually BE one!!! So compounds our mission!!! Reply to this

what do we spend our time thinking about? cars, boats, girls? how about complaints, poor me thoughts, life isn't fair thoughts? What about images from a movie or song that was laced with sinful overtones? are these things true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy? The more I understand how important it is to keep your mind pure the more I see the need to stay clear of many practices of the world. Movies that have sexual overtones, gruesome images, idle points do not give you a leg up on keeping your mind pure. It is a challenge for sure, but It is for our benefit. We would not struggle with sin nearly as much if we did not feed it with all the comforts of our worldly surroundings. Reply to this
