How much are we like the Pharisees and Sadducees? We definitely don't ask Jesus for miracles and signs from heaven, but what do we imply or expect from our relationships? Are we expecting them to be exactly like Jesus? Are we watching for the flaws and waiting for them to mess up? The Pharisees and Sadducees are always trying to test Jesus. When if they really were the teachers of the law they would have been trying to help Him spread the word. Are we acting like Pharisees and Sadducees or are we being Christ like and setting the example, spreading the word, expecting the worst from people but giving our best. There are many rocky marriages out there, most people end up in divorce. What would happen if we all acted like Hosea, to not only our wives but to everyone who did us wrong. Great lesson on Hosea and Gomer yesterday at church. Gomer constantly did Hosea wrong yet he continued to show his love for her, as God commanded, like God continues to show His love to us. The yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees, what does that compare to today? The laws and the false teaching that were taught through them. The misinterpretation of the rules for Godly living. How many different churches do we have today, the number is staggering. Everyone wants a different interpretation of the word, they want it to fit their lifestyle. There is only one true word and we all need to make sure that we do not let the yeast of the world work it's way through our lives. How often are we like Peter? How often do we have the things of man in mind and not the will of God? Is our will God's will? I don't think so. We are selfish in nature and it is very hard to get out of our comfort zone. We need to take a good look at ourselves everyday and make sure that we are not becoming the Pharisees and Sadducees of this day and age. Just a thought. Reply to this

One moment Jesus tells Peter that he was given a gift from God, a revelation about Him being the son of God, and the next moment he is rebuking Peter calling him Satan. We can be the same way. One moment we can do something good and the next something really dumb. If we can minimize the dumbness by understanding what Jesus is trying to do with us (His Yoke) I think we would enjoy life more. Living as if Jesus is right there every moment. I sometimes do not think this way. If I think on a regular basis how would it change my behavior? He is in the passenger in my car (not the copilot) sits with me at work, hangs with me at home and so on. I am going make an effort to think this way all say today and see how it changes my actions, words, and emotions. Reply to this

Ever heard THAT ditty before? I know I say (or think) it many times during a year, as it was one of those things that seemed to come true when I was growing up. If the sun (and/or sunrise) was of a reddish hue in the morning, we would usually get bad weather that afternoon or the next day. However, if the sunset glowed red, it usually resulted in a beautiful day the next morning.
I didn't realize that this 'old wives' tale' came almost directly out of the Bible. Verses 2 and 3 of this chapter seems to be where the saying probably came from.
Jesus' words here were showing the 'non-believers' of His day of how they may have been smart at some things, they could never really be smart enough to understand the clear signs around them concerning the Messiah. They, of course, still believed that this great Messiah would come as a king on earth, freeing them from the bondage of foreign rule...they were too blind to even understand their own Bible. Although well versed in the Scriptures, they didn't get the fact that Jesus was the one who would come, not to save the people from rule of foreign countries, but to save them from the rule of Satan. THAT was His mission...not what these folks had figured on.
I liken them, those 'unbelieving' peoples of Jesus' day, to several organizations of people today. Many believe they are Bible-smart, yet they just don't 'get it' Many think that they MUST do things in order to retain their salvation. Ah, not so. It is that we must NOT do things, if we plan to keep hold of the great gift God has given us.
We are NOT to make our lives full of sin (see Galatians 5:19-21), but to live out our lives according to His great glory (Galatians 22 to end of book). It is NOT a 'works' religion or way of life, it is a 'sin avoidance' one. But, as we ARE man, we will occasionally (YOU determine what that word means in your life) sin; but when we do, we simply need to confess them (not a 'works') and start all over again.
Questions for the day: 1-When is the last time you sinned? 2-Did you ask for forgiveness for that sin since? 3-When is the last time you have sat down with another Christian brother to open up your sin(ful) life to get some help? 4-When is the last time you sat with someone else and attempted to help him/her with their sin(s)?
Okay, enough questions...all rhetorical anyway...just thought I'd concentrate on confessions today as the sunrise was reddish this morning, which can only mean 'stormy weather' is probably on the way (and not just in the area of Mother Nature, either). (Hmmm...I did hear we are to get rain and wind on Wednesday!) Reply to this
