Oh how good those home made raised doughnuts were that my mom used to make. Freshly fried in a pan of boiling hot lard and then covered in creamy white sugar glaze. Tasted oh-so delicious...but...we could only have one until after supper (on the farm in Vermont, dinner is the noon meal and supper is the 5 PM meal). Only ONE? Well, of course you know what my brother and I did, don't you? We snuck a couple 'extra' when Mom wasn't looking. THOSE donuts tasted even better because we 'worked' for them (yeah, we worked at being sneaky to get them and rearrange the remaining so Mom wouldn't know any were missing--of course, now, we REALLY know she knew all along). Is that how a lot of things are today with us? Things we do in secret are 'delicious'? Those things we do without other's knowing about it (both good and bad), aren't they 'precious' to us. The Bible DOES say that you are do do good things in secret (where your left hand doesn't know what your right hand is doing). And how about the bad? Isn't 'folly' very inviting? The lusting, the envy, the desires....aren't these things we do secretly 'sweet'? Of course they are, but we must remember, much like brushing your teeth to get the sweet tasting bacteria off them, we need to 'brush' ourselves, our souls, of the sweet folly which 'so easily entangles us'. How do we 'brush our souls'? By confessing to God and to others. Just like you should brush your teeth after eating anything sweet (or any foods for that matter), (of course, my brother and I didn't after sneaking those glazed doughnuts that is why my teeth are in such bad shape today), we need to confess our sins immediately after committing them. Flossing? Oh, that is the rebuke we need from each other because we failed to do our regular brushing.
So, today, when you brush your teeth, think about what you are doing. Cleaning the 'folly' from your teeth...now, do the same with your soul, cleaning THAT folly (your sins) from your very self.

interesting you pick teeth brushing as a parable to soul cleansing. I brush my teeth most days but I am not 100%. It is a habit for someone who brushes there teeth 2 to 3 time a day, they do not miss they are consistent. I struggle with consistency, in all that I do, reading my Bible, praying, and yes even brushing my teeth.

10 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

this ties into our discussion from yesterday. the wise of the time knew of the Holy One, we know Him as Jesus, they did not. those who could discerned that there was a Holy one would understand similar to how we under stand today.

I want to just say to all that PRAYER WORKS!!! My son has been having troubles again healthwise. For three days I ran him to doctors and tried to do all that I could do to help him. Finally, I did what I should have done at first, I prayed. I gave control of the issue to God and guess what? He changed and the changes continue both to him as well as in issues around him that I can attribute to nothing but God. God is awesome and he answers prayer. Pray and then watch and wait. Fortunately God did not make me wait too long for this - my faith is so weak. I am learning and want to continue to learn about the power and love of God.
