This kind of perturbed God. First forming an idol of gold and claiming THAT to be their god, then simply ignoring the real God and celebrating their 'freedom' from His rule. I can see why God told Moses that He would "destroy" them, and then Make Aaron and his descendants "as numerous as the stars in the sky". I imagine we can also get God angry....and don't tell me that BEING angry is a sin, as God got angry a LOT in the OT. What did you do in the past few days which could have angered God? (Confession time). Have you yet asked for forgiveness like Aaron did on behalf of the Israelites when THEY angered the Lord?
PS--this morning I reference several discussions of "Sabbath" for Rick (found mostly in Exodus and Leviticus) to show that our 'Sunday', which really should be our 'Saturday' (Sabado in Spanish), is but one of several Sabbaths. As a matter of a fact, every seventh year, back in Moses' day, was a Sabbath YEAR!! So was the Day of Atonement. The term Sabbath really means "to cease"; like God did of His work of creating all things. I wrote this, plus much more this morning, but when I went to publish, I accidentally overwrote it all and couldn't get it back. Anyway....it's a good subject to study more about if you desire, Rick...but it can get to be a long, in-depth one if you really want to know all about Sabbath(s). Reply to this

Interesting that the people call Moses "this fellow." Have they so easily forgotten all that Moses did (actually God through Moses). It amazes me how easily we (us today, just like these people) can forget something good. Remember when you got married? How in love you were with your wife. Remember when your first child was born? How incredible it was. Remember the day you got baptized? How you promised to always follow God and you were so grateful for his mercy. I remember these things. And I also remember getting tired of my wife, getting impatience with my children and losing my love and fervor for God.
I read this chapter as a critic and I see incredible selfishness, lack of gratitude and downright stupidity. God told these people just a few chapters ago (days, weeks, months ago in real time) that they should not worship false gods. They all pledged to do all that God said when they saw the awesome power of God on the mountain. But here, just a short time later, they do exactly what they pledged not to do.
When I read this chapter with open eyes, however, I see myself doing the same type of things. I pledged myself to God when I was baptized, and yet I struggle with reading his word everyday and praying everyday. When things in my life are going well, I praise God. When things seem like they are falling apart, I so easily turn my back on God and worship idols (myself, money, other people, ...).
I don't know about you guys, but if I am honest, I am no different from the people in this chapter. And that makes me sick. Reply to this
