Wanted to share an interesting thought I heard on Sunday. Our preacher told us that there were 2 kinds of debts. A debt we must repay to the one from whom we borrowed and a debt that can be repaid by passing on what we got to someone else. Then he gave this example. When he bought a house, he needed a down payment. Not having the cash, he asked his rich aunt for a loan. The terms of the loan required him to pay her $300 per month for many years. About 2 years after taking out this loan, his daughter started college. Because scholarships did not cover the cost, he needed money to send her to college. He went back to his rich aunt and asked her if he could stop making payments on the down payment loan for awhile so that he could pay for his daughter's college. The rich aunt told him that if he promised to use the $300 for his daughter's tuition only, she would consider the debt he owed her to be paid. Thus, he could repay the loan to his rich aunt by giving something special to his daughter.
God has given us an incredible gift = salvation. There is no way we could ever repay God for this gift. We can do "good" works forever and still not be able to repay the gift from God. And, the fact is, God does not want us to repay him. Instead he wants us to share that gift with others. A few days ago Mac asked about letting his light shine. We repay the gift God has given to us by letting our light shine to others. It is a pure gratitude thing. God gave much to us so that we are able to give much to others.
In addition to this, he said that we are able to see that God exists by looking at nature. Nature is how we can feel God's existence. Or, more directly, God communicates his existence to us through nature. However, there is no way for God to communicate or demonstrate his love for us except through people who have received and understand the gift of salvation. So, by letting our light shine, by caring for others, by sharing our faith, by being a shining light in this dark world, we express the love of God to others. We let others actually feel God.
