here we have six days of waiting and on the seventh day Moses went to the mountain. this is sort of oposite to the creation. also there is the 40 days 40 nights. this is the same as Jesus did in the desert. Does anyone think there is a signifigence to these numbers?

Interesting passage. I am reading the NLT version. I don't remember that Moses had sprinkled the people with blood after he had read the covenant to them and they all cried out that they would do as God said. Talk about the blood of the covenant. One would think the fear of God back in the day would be overwhelming! God has an angel in front of you as you travel and protects you at all times, yet they still fall away. What does that say for the people of today? Over the past few days I have been reminded of that poem, picture, of the footprints in the sand. I'm struggling with God right now and at times I feel like Job. I feel like all is slipping away and I tell God I am not Job, I won't do as good as he did, but in all of the mess, God is still God. I don't understand anything about "the big picture", I wish I had a clue, but I do know, that even as Job's friends told him to curse God and be done, that would be wrong, God is in control, He is real, and to curse Him would be stupid. Especially since I can do nothing but He can do everything. Verse 9 "Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel climbed up the mountain. 10 There they saw the God of Israel." And they lived,vs 11" And though these nobles of Israel gazed upon God, he did not destroy them. In fact, they ate a covenant meal, eating and drinking in his presence!" I don't ever remember reading this before. How many people can you think of that have gazed upon God? I know Zack had a question like that at one time. I don't really get much from this other than the people made a commitment and then they went back on it, as we learn later on. Interesting also was that Moses was on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights, do we know anybody else with that time frame? I hope all goes well for you rich, God listens to the prayers of the righteous, He hears the prayers of us all, but why do for us when we don't do for Him. Even when we think God has left us He is still there, we just have to have faith.

Simply amazing....I read the chapter and decided I wanted to talk about the 7 days and 40 night thing, and lo and behold, before I did, I read Rik's comments.... :-)

I see these numbers as being symbolic, if not actual. Moses probably did sit there 7 days, and then stayed for 40--not sure, but more than likely, that was so. But why do we keep seeing these numbers? Let's start with the number 7: Some examples of 7 in the Old Testament: the first creation story in Genesis, written during or just after the Babylonian Exile, has seven days; Noah took every clean beast and every bird by sevens (or seven pairs), and in seven days it started to rain; Jacob served seven years for Leah and seven years for Rachel; Egypt had seven years of plenty and seven years of famine.
The New Testament has the seven loaves and fishes; seven devils exorcised from Mary Magdalene; forgiveness seventy times seven. Also, Revelation has seven churches and many symbols are seven fold, usually because of the 7 angels (archangels). Luke's Gospel demonstrates that Jesus was predestined for greatness because great men occurred in multiples of seven generations starting from Adam, Enoch at 7, Abraham at 21, David at 35 and Jesus at 77, while Matthew demonstrates that Jesus was predestined for greatness because there were 14 generations from Josiah to Jesus, just as there had been 14 generations from David to Josiah and from Abraham to David (14 being 2 times 7). The number 7 is often related to perfection, but also was known as a demonstration of power. Many times, as you can see, when events concerning God/Jesus are concerned, you will see perfection and power, by the use of the number 7.
Okay, now the 40. PUNISHMENT!!! WHAT? Read this: The number 40 occurs most conspicuously in connection with the Flood (40 days), with Moses on Mount Sinai (40 days, during which the Jews made the Golden Calf), and with the time the Jews spent in the desert (40 years, in punishment for their listening to the spies who had spent 40 days exploring the Promised Land). Thus 40 seems to be associated with punishment. Just a thought. YOURS?

It is also the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert. Was He being punished to test His faith? I believe He was being tested wich can be a form of punishment. When one must disipline theirself and have faith, that is punishing.

Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD, so the LORD delivered them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years.

David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years

Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel forty years.

Joash became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem forty years.

David son of Jesse was king over all Israel. 27 He ruled over Israel forty years

He (Jesus) appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

AWESOME...Tony is back!!!!!!!!! Tony---keep the faith young man...all will work its way out just fine. Trust, as I know you do, in God--not in money, friends, family, things, but in GOD. Oh sure, trust in us 'a bit', as we ARE your friends, and trust in your family, as they ARE your family, but most of all, just maintain that trust in the ONE who can fix all things when He gets good and ready to do so!!!!!
Oh, by the way, the sec code for me to enter for this entry starts off with 77, :-)

Yes, I just got to my computer after a very long meeting. All went well. I remained calm (thanks to God) and dealt with all attacks without retaliating. I know this was from God and due to your prayers. Thank you so much. I feel much better and I believe the truth was revealed to all concerned. Again, thanks.
