Jealousy--hostility toward a rival or one believed to enjoy an advantage, so says MW. Saul was definitely hostile toward David...tried to kill him himself with his spear (twice) and then sent him to war with the Philistines, expecting them to kill him. Saul not only suspected, but knew, that David enjoyed an advantage over him----God was with David and not Saul. This feeling that Saul had led to other sins: attempted murder, deceipt and hate. We have to be careful we do not become jealous of other people---who they are, what they have, what they look like, etc. Because if we do, we can also turn that jealousy into worse sins. Envy and greed will feed jealousy, convincing us that we should have what others have because we are 'with God'. Wow, do we ever have to be careful about that. On your 'journey' today, look around you and note what you DO have, vice what you do not have. This should immediately change your attitude and prevent jealousy from growing into something worse. We, as Christians, have the best thing of all...better than big homes, better than fancy cars, better than 'ideal' appearances....we have salvation through the love of Christ.
