Leadership. Some people are born leaders, some have it thrust upon them. Saul seems to be one which had it thrust upon him by God. In this chapter, Saul starts off his first major war campaign (against the Ammonites) by instilling fear into his own people to get them to fight for him. He didn't do any locker room pep talk like Vince Lombardi might have done. No, he sent pieces of slaughtered oxen throughout his people and told them that unless they fought with/for him, they would end up like that. I prefer a leader today of one who leads, not pushes. Have you known both types in your jobs? Which are you as a leader of your family? Just something to think about. We studied 1st Peter, chapter 2 last evening at our weekly Bible group meeting and rediscovered the meaning of corner- and cap-stones. Leaders, really. And of course that chapter was talking about Jesus being our leader, the cornerstone of our lives, and the capstone which keeps us together as a holy family. Jesus didn't lead by fear, but by love. That should be our goal as family leaders, and leaders of others on the job and in the church. All are invited Sunday evening to our church (New Life Christian Church) in Douglasville...I will be leading the second in a 6-part series on the book (with video), If You Want To Walk On Water, You've Got To Get Out Of The Boat.
