To Rik----missed your phone call last evening...phone was on vibrate---wne to a comedy club and saw you called, but didn't want to call you back then, it was 11:15. What's up? Proverb 27. Rick's favorite: verse 17...iron sharpening iron, we men trying to do the same to each other. Great stuff from Rich yesterday....never really thought of being a fool in that manner. Verse 7 is interesting.....He who is full loathes honey, but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet. I could also liken that to the Word of God. Those who THINK they are full (wise) and don't need any more reading, hates everything, even things that are good (sweet), yet those who study His Word see the sharpness off rebuke in it and like it!!!! Hope all enjoy this great weather day today. Reply to this

Verse 7: The Word of God is often described as tasting like honey in the Bible (for example, look at Psalm 119:103, Ez 3:3, Rev 10:9). Verse 7 says that he who is full loathes honey. Maybe this can mean he who is full of the word of God does not need to fill himself with God's word anymore. So, the question I ask is: Am I full of the word of God? No way!!! I would have to study and read and study and read and more and more and even after all of that I would not be full. In fact, I am sure that it is not possible to be full of the word of God. For certain, I know it is not possible to be full by reading 10-15 minutes a day (not even every day at that) and blogging now and then!!!
Yet, I act like I am full of the word of God. Becasue if I was not full, I would be like the second half of verse 7 - "to the hungry, even what is bitter tastes sweet!" When I think my stomach is full because I eat too much, I do not eat any more. But when I am hungry, I will eat anything that I can get my hands on. I do not like vegetables that much. But if I am hungry and vegetables are all that I have, I eat them (and I am happy about it). I know that people who are hungry do not complain about the food they receive. They accept and are glad for what they are given.
Thinking about this, I see that my study time would be so much different if I saw the word of God as food and if I saw myself as being hungry. I would not shy away from those passages that challenge me - you know, the ones that talk about sin, about doing what is good, about loving others, about .... I would accept those "bitter" things as being "sweet" as honey.
My prayer for myself today is to see myself as hungry for God's word each and every day of my life. I pray the same for each of you too. Seeing ourselves as hungry (as starving) and seeing God's word as food easily available to us (in fact, as good food that is sweet as honey) takes away all excuses for not "eating" daily.
