NOthing jumped out at me today in Proverbs 24. So, a little bit about something else. Next Sunday evening, the small men's group at New Life Christian Church are starting a video/discussion series entitled "If you want to walk on water, you've got to get out of the boat." This series is based on the book of the same name by John Ortberg. I volunteered to lead some of these discussions, so I found the paperback version of the book on line and got it the other day.In the beginning of the book (as I have just started to read it), another author wroate that this book is "an adventure that can only happen when you say 'yes' to making Jesus the focus of your life." We all CALL ourselves Christians, but I am afraid we don't make Jesus our focus but a few times a week. The 'boat' that I am in is full of sin...you all know my sinful ways as we have talked about it in the past...it is extremely hard to get out of that boat. It may be the same for you, I'm not sure. But the analogy of the title of this book and series to our lives is uncanningly accurate. If we want to rightly call ourselves Christians, we have to get out of our boat of sin. Now, I don't know the points yet to be made in this book, but just the title is interesting enough for me to want to read this book and participate in this series. Whether it be sin to which the author refers to as the boat, or maybe just our comfort zone, it is important to get out of either so that we can become more like Jesus. And who knows, the more we DO become like Him, the better possibility we have of walking on water and performing miracles ourselves for God. Rik...if you would like to join us Sunday evenings, I know you would find this interesting, and will certainly have great thoughts to share as we go through this series starting next Sunday. There is no expectation for 'outside' reading or studying, but just to attend the 1.5 hour sessions and participate in the discussions. Reply to this
