One thing I never really contemplated about the story of Jesus' transfiguration was, 'what was He, Moses and Elijah discussing?' To understand better the concept of Heaven, 'pergatory' and 'limbo' would probably assist. Last week I happened on a CNN headline about a Bishop in the Church of Englas bodly disclaiming our concept of Heaven. Not to get into the article very deep, he basically said when people die today (and in the past), they do not go to a 'heaven' until Jesus' 'final' return (when He gathers them up). The Scriptures over and over support this concept. So, if we are to believe that when we die, we don't go to Heaven, but go 'somewhere' for 'awhile', then there is also Moses and Elijah. I am not sure if Moses and Elijah were 'with' God (I tend to believe they were/are, but not necessarily in the final 'heaven') or not. So what did Jesus discuss with these 'people' (souls?)? Was He getting some kind of advice? Was He getting support from them as He neared his end as a human? Was this meeting just set up to show to the Disciples something---to help convince them He was the Son of God? Although we know Peter asked a dumb question, but what would WE say if we saw such a sight? Probably something of more ignorance than that. Anyway, questions to ponder, and if you would like to read the article (a great one by the way), I have it in electrons in the office. Just let me know and I can email tomorrow.
