Colossians 1. Apt that I should choose this book for this morning, as today is when we join together in prayer. Paul tells these men and women (he just says 'holy and faithful BROTHERS', but I hope that he included women in his intended audience. (Of course. 'brothers in Christ' might have been misinterpreted over all these years and may really be non-gender specific...who knows?) He talks of prayer so that people will have/get/do the following: knowldege of God's will, spiritual wisdom and understanding. A worthy life. Bearing fruit on all occasions. Growing in the knowledge of God. Being strengthened with all power, endurance and patience. Joy for giving thanks. Redemption.
As I mentioned yesterday, my prayer life is terrible. After reading all the things that can happen when praying, I intend to do better this year--pray more often, longer, and with different set of expectations.

All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God's grace in all its truth. Maybe we are not bearing fruit because we do not understand Gods word.
For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. How is it we are so selfish all the day long and we forget what God has done for us? Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. It is interesting that Paul says we were alienated in our minds. Did we have the choice or was it because we knew that we were wrong but did not know how to be right?
