Daniel 12.....as I was reading this this morning, I suddenly realized that chapters 11 and 12 were PROBABLY talking about two different times--the former in our past history, and the latter in the future some time. I can't understand the number of days mentioned, and as a matter of a fact, neither could Daniel...when he asked, he was told the prophesy had been sealed. The bottomline to this chapter is that no one really knows when these events will take place, where the dead will rise and be finally judged. BUT, whenever that occurs, I want to be ready for it. I am about half way through the book, The Character of Jesus, or as republished, Jesus, the Same. It is encouraging me more and more to love myh saviour simply for the fact of preparing myself for when the "time, times and half a time" occur. If you are not reading this wonderful book, I suggest you fit a few minutes in every so often to read it...excellent way to compare ourselves to Christ and seeing if we have any of the characteristics that so well defined the grand master teacher of all times. If a thousand years is but a day, are we looking at 1290 years? If so starting when? After the rise of everyone why the 45 days,or 45 thousand years more to survive? Things that make one wonder. Reply to this

Daniel 12 - I also don't understand the days or even the specifics of the prophesy. However, I do see several items in Daniel 12 that encourage me greatly. First, everyone whose name is written in the book "will be delivered." God, who delivered to Daniel by saving him in the fire and by saving him in the lions den in this book (and by saving HMA) promises this. This is a promise that Daniel trusted and that we also can trust in. Second, at the end "multitudes" who sleep in the earth (i.e., all who have died) will awake. Some will go to everlasting life and others to everlasting shame. There WILL be a judgement day. That is the most important day of my life. All that is going on now is minor and inconsequential compared to that day. This is the way to face what seems to be hardships. Focus on judgement day. That makes all of this stuff seem petty. This is all just a "mist" compared to everlasting life. Though on the surface it is big and important now, in fact, in the great scheme of things, it means nothing. In fact, like I said yesterday, hardships in our life can be used (if we choose) to refine our hearts and strengthen our faith. It is belief and faith like this that caused Daniel and his friends to walk into the fire and into the lions den. Third, "those who are wise (i.e., saved and who live as we are striving to live), will "shine like the brightness of the heavens." WOW!!! And those who leads others to heaven will shine like the stars for ever and ever. I cannot even imagine how this must have made Daniel feel. His actions of standing up for God in this book caused 2 different kings to claim God to the people as the only one and true God. I think that probably many people were saved because of Daniel. We too should take comfort in this claim from God as we strive to encourage each other to stay faithful to the end as well as reach out to others. I know we all wish to shine like stars for ever and ever!!! Reply to this
