Happy Thanksgiving ALL.... Just thought I'd change things up a bit....We'll come back to Mark 16 tomorrow, but today, a day of Thanksgiving, I thought we might look into the Bible just a bit on this subject. 2nd Cor 9:10-15. These verses are talking about the great gift of grace from God. I specifically like verse 11 which states that we are made rich because of grace and this will result in thanking God. And he goes on to say that we thank God by our actions. Actions of spreading the word of God through our works. We have SO much to be thankful for, but the greatest of those is grace...the grace he has given us to allow us to go to heaven. What a gift! And we ARE thankful. Sometimes our actions just don't seem to show it. Today, as you gobble down turkey and vegitate on the sofa watching sports, take some time to thank God for everything you have. Our service to God is weak, for sure, but we can make it stronger, we can prove ourselves, simply by taking time now and again to "praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else." I hope each of you got my electronic Thanksgiving card. I want each of you to know how special you are to me and how thankful I am that God put you in my life. Last year at Thanksgiving I was mired in sin, hopeless, friendless and had little to be happy about or to look forward to. I remember specifically praying to God last year for friends and for a spiritual awakening. I now have both.
First I thank God for answering my prayers. We had a family meal this afternoon that was better than I could have imagined. Each of us shared what we were thankful for. All were thankful for things that God has done in our family over the past year. We all recognize that God is alive and well in our household. Like Mac said yesterday, our house used to be filled with demons. No longer. This is a house of God, a house where Jesus reigns supreme. We still have a long way to go, but it is obvious that changes have occurred and that hope has been restored. God has awakened me and he has awakened my family.
Next, I am thankful for each of you. You guys are very special to me. I look forward to getting to know each of you better this coming year. I look forward to spending some 'real' time together (as opposed to 'virtual' time).
I hope each of you had a great day today. Thanksgiving is something we should do every day. As Mac said, we have SO much to be thankful for. All we need to do is love God and then just to open our eyes to look at all that God has done and continues to do for us. Reply to this
