So, according to this chapter, Jesus died and was 'buried' (laid in a tomb) on what we call a Friday (the day before the Sabbath--the Sabbath, being the last day of the week, or our Saturday). When that 'Saturday' was over, Mary and others got the stuff they needed and headed to the tomb on that Sunday (first day of the week) morning. This all means that Jesus died on day 1 (Friday) and rose from the dead on day 3 (Sunday). Why do I say all this? Because, you must remember, their 'day' began at 6 AM, and ended at 6 PM. Some have claimed that Jesus died on a Thursday, or even a Wednesday, for various reasons: using day start times of 6 AM and time for burial preparation, and other thoughts and reasons. However, when Jesus said he was going to rebuild the Temple in 3 days, he did just that...as a matter of a fact, he did it in less than 3 full days, because he died 'at the ninth hour', which would be 3 in the afternoon (as the day started at 6 AM), of that Friday, and then rose from the dead 'very early on the first day of the week' (Sunday). So, you see, even Jesus can amaze himself! . He rebuilt himself (the Temple) in less than three full days. Isn't this just wonderful news? He amazes us, as Rich noted he did everyone else in his time, even today. We owe him more than we have for this amazement. So, today, go around and be amazed at all he has done for you, and thank him more than usual today in your amazement. Reply to this

That must have been quite a scare for the ladies at that time! It is interesting that we have two conflicting reports of what happened here. In the first part of the chapter, after Mary has arrived at the tomb, she finds a young man dressed in white. He tells her not to be afraid, that Jesus has risen and that Jesus is going ahead to prepare the way. They run off trembling and astonished and say nothing to anyone. For some reason verses 9-20 are not in all the translations. They are a different account of what happened on the first day. But the main theme is the same. Jesus died, was laid to rest, buried in the since that the tomb was in the ground, and rose from the dead 3 days later as He said He would. Jesus is awesome! All we can do is try to imitate Him.
